Saturday was a good day! We started off at the YTAC (Young Texans Against Cancer) Chili Cook-off. Although we, Chili Con Carne-Val, didn't place [IMO: even though we had the best chili!], they had a GREAT turn-out and are expecting their profit to be at about $22,000 raised!! Go, Austin!!
Besides just having fun, I also learned a few things:
True "Texas" chili apparently doesn't have beans. WHAT?!?! The last time I ate chili without beans (before Saturday, of course) was on a chili-dog...the only time chili sans beans is allowed!
No matter how cold the weatherman predicts the Texas weather to be, girls will still show up dressed like it is the middle of August [read: tiny shorts, bare midriffs, exposed cleavage, etc.]! Lucky for them, however, the weatherman was completely wrong on Saturday. Unlucky for me, I did not get the memo that we were dressing like it was August (see picture below)...aaannnnddddd the weatherman was wrong on Saturday.
It only takes a few shots of chili [image builder: seriously, shots...they gave us little tiny dental cups without spoons (unless the table was nice enough to provide you with a spoon) to taste test] to really fill you up...it's rather amazing!
No matter how many times you ask my beloved brother-in-law if we need utensils (primarily a ladle) and he says no, still bring one! Love you, BK! :) [Side note: he did make a dang good chili though so I can't discredit him too much!]

We finished off the night with a little Kris Gordon at the Rattle Inn! Our friend, Donny, is in the band so we try to make all the local shows. They are seriously so good though!!! Two of my new favorite songs are The Upside of Down (click here to listen and check out his website or here to watch the video) and When You Close Your Eyes!! If you haven't heard them yet, you are missing out...stop everything right now and go listen!!
