23 Weeks

How far along: 23 Weeks
Total weight gain/loss: 22 lbs...eek!  The doctor is expecting a 50-lb weight gain at this rate...I need to do something about that PRONTO!  But what?!?!?!  (sad face)

Maternity clothes: Finally cleaned my closet out to make room for the "new" wardrobe. I'm pretty much exclusively wearing maternity clothes with the exception of a few shirts and dresses I can still fit squeeze into and a few of the work pants that the bellyband helps me get away with wearing...it's getting pretty tight though!
Stretch marks: Negative
Sleep: So-so...not great.

Best moment this week: Boon finally felt the baby move!!  The look on his face was so cute...I was so excited for him!!
Miss anything: Along the same lines as last week, I miss having "outfits" that I know go together - I'm talking from earrings all the way down to the shoes.  Packing for AK was nearly impossible last night and it took me three stinking hours!!
Movement: Oh yes...lots!!  And now I get to share the feeling with Boon!!  I hope my family and father-in-law get to feel her this next week too!!
Food cravings: Candy....candy....candy!!  (Maybe this has something to do with my weight gain...hmmmm????)
Anything making me queasy or sick: I did pretty good this week and no scares this time!
Gender: GIRL!!!!
Labor Signs: Negative.
Symptoms: Back and hip pain were probably the worst systems this week.  I also am having lots of round ligament pain now.
Belly button in or out: Let's go with half-n-half...it's starting to poke out at the top.  I have to say this is probably the strangest thing about my growing belly that I just can't get used to!
Belly button ring in or out: Out. :(
Wedding rings on or off: On!
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!  Great week!...I'm so excited to be in AK right now!!
Most surprised about: How difficult it was to pack!  Oh...and how indecisive I am these days...maybe that is why it was so difficult to pack.
Looking forward to: Spending the week in AK with Boon, my family and father-in-law!

Headed Way Up North

Wahoo!!!!  We finally fly out for AK this evening!  I.CANNOT.WAIT.  I'm so excited to see these people and hang out with them for a whole nine days!

My beautiful mom-me! I wish Jaxson was going to be there too!!
My wonderful step-mom and dad!!  (Apparently, I really wish Jaxson were going to be there!)
My father-in-law is coming along too so we have so many fun things planned!  I think he'll have a blast...sightseeing, fishing, indulging in all the seafood he can get...it will be great!  I think I'm most excited about baby shopping with my mom and Cheryl though!!  (hehehe!)   The only thing that would make this trip better is if Kelsie, Holly, Tony, Jaxson and BK were coming too.  We'll have to plan that trip for next summer!

Hope everyone has a great week!  I hope to come back with lots of pictures to share with you all!!

22 Weeks

How far along: 22 Weeks
Total weight gain/loss: +18 lbs (I'll find out at the doctor on Wednesday...scary!)
Maternity clothes: Finally cleaned my closet out to make room for the "new" wardrobe. I'm pretty much exclusively wearing maternity clothes with the exception of a few shirts and dresses I can still fit squeeze into and a few of the work pants that the bellyband helps me get away with wearing!
Stretch marks: Negative
Sleep: Depends on the night...some nights are great and others I toss and turn all night.
Best moment this week: Hearing the heartbeat on Monday!!! We had a bit of a scare and ended up in Labor & Delivery for a full-checkup on August 13th - Boon's birthday. (See below for further explanation.)
Miss anything: To be honest and at the risk of sounding totally lame, I am actually really missing "fashion" this week. As I was shopping online for maternity pants and cute fall boots, I started noticing all of the super cute fall-fashion looks and it made me kind of sad that I can't wear them this year. But no worries...I will do my best to modify the looks to suite a baby bump!!
Movement: I *LOVE* movement!!! I just can't wait until Boon can feel her too!
Food cravings: Candy....candy....candy!!
Anything making me queasy or sick: Ok - to finish the story I started above under "Best Moment This Week": on our way home after dinner on Wednesday (08/08) I got really sick for some unknown reason and as I was asking Boon to pull-over I started blacking out. Well, I didn't end up actually fainting and never did get "sick", but the rest of the night I was super dizzy. The dizziness lasted until Friday (08/10) so I called the doctor, but since I was still feeling movement and not experiencing any other problems they didn't think the dizziness was pregnancy related so I went on with my day. Well, that night the dizziness stopped, but a horrible pain started in my right side and continued down to my leg. I also noticed I wasn't really feeling any movement. The pain lasted throughout Saturday and off and on all day Sunday, then on Sunday my belly button became extremely sensitive and looked bruised...and the worst part I hadn't felt the baby all weekend. I figured I'd wait until after lunch on Monday to see if she'd move, but nothing happened so I called the doctor again. I totally figured I was being an overly-freaked-out-first-time-preggers and that they would tell me that everything was probably fine, but come in and we'll check the heartbeat. BUT, instead, they tell me I need to go to Labor & Delivery immediately. As expected, I then freaked out. When I got to Labor & Delivery they finally checked for a heartbeat and after what seemed like minutes (which was probably really 20 seconds or so) they found the heartbeat way up high on the left side....she is usually down low on the right side! I was ever so thankful to hear that little heartbeat!!! They couldn't really tell me why any of the other things were happening, but were happy for the strong heartbeat so they sent me home. By Tuesday she was moving like normal again! Little stinker better never scare me like that again!!!
Gender: GIRL!!!!
Labor Signs: Negative.
Symptoms: Leg cramps, heartburn and back pain peaked the top of the list the last two weeks. Tums and heat packs are my new best friends!
Belly button in or out: Hanging in there...literally looks like it is hanging...so weird!
Belly button ring in or out: Out. :(
Wedding rings on or off: On!
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!
Most surprised about: The things people feel like they can say to pregnant women - it's like we wear a sign that says "Please forget your filter and totally speak your mind...no matter what you are thinking!" For example: (1) the reaction certain folks give when they hear the baby's name (which I will spill once we have the spelling nailed down...I don't want to put anything in writing yet!); (2) all of a sudden "breastfeeding", "nipples", "latching-on", "uterus," etc. are terms people throw around freely no matter the company, sex or age of the person you're talking to (i.e. even if it is your first conversation EVER with a male co-worker probably in his 60's); and (3) "Hey, fat lady" and "Whoa, you just keep expanding" are not the nicest things to say, yet when you are pregnant they apparently become completely acceptable terms of endearment.
Looking forward to: Our Alaska trip and seeing my mom, dad and Cheryl!!! I am also sooo-oo excited to see our good friends, Chris and Kristen, and their adorable new little bundle of joy, Megan!!!

I have the BEST dad!

This morning on Kase101 they were talking about a dad that built his daughter a roller coaster in their backyard and another dad who built his son a racecar so they had asked people to call in to share great dad stories either about their dad or something great they've done as a dad.  As I was listening, I started thinking about all of the great things my dad did for my sisters and me as kids and decided to write a little tribute to him to say thank you for being such a GREAT DAD!

Love you, Dad!!
One of the coolest things I remember doing with my dad is when he built us the best snow fort on the block!  It was so awesome!  That year we had a ton of snow - if I remember right, the snowbanks were taller than we were! He dug us a fort in the front yard complete with a roof, a door and a secret tunnel entrance in the back.  I remember we'd play in the fort for hours (or at least at that age (I'm thinking early elementary...I can't remember exactly) it seemed like hours.)  It was completely enclosed so it was actually pretty warm inside.  We'd play house with our friends and bring snacks into the fort for "meal times"!  It was so fun - all of the neighbors loved it too!   That is until somebody's dog found his/her way in and decided to use our lovely fort as a restroom...it smelt so bad that we couldn't play in it any more. :( But until its tragic, smelly end we loved that fort!  (I wish I had a picture to share!)

Another fun thing my dad did for us as kids was buy us a go-cart!  It was a little blue, two-seater go-cart with a small motor on the back.  Safety was obviously a huge concern of his [side note: despite that it had no seat belts which got me in trouble once when I took a sharp turn and threw Holly out...oops!] so he rigged up a safety "flag" on the back.  Our safety "flag" was made of a long pole...probably 6 feet tall...and most likely made of PVC or something of that sort which he then wrapped a bright orange safety vest around the top of the pole that acted like the "flag."  We were mortified!!!  It was so embarrassing, but the only way we could ride the go-cart is with that stupid safety "flag" on the back....so we did.   We had a blast on that thing too...we'd cruise up and down the cul-de-sac like we owned the place (little orange "flag" and all)!  I probably looked like a giant dork because my legs were a little too long so I had to ride with my knees practically next to my ears, but I didn't care...that thing got me places!   Oh...and I have to explain the motor...so the motor was just an open motor that sat on the back right behind the driver's seat- it was kind of like a lawn mower motor....it actually could have been for all I know.  Anyway, to start the go-cart we had to pull a cable in the back just like on an old lawn mower and then we always smelled like gas when we were done riding it - still we didn't care, it was fun!  One time I had my hair in a pony tail and as I was headed up the cul-de-sac, I started to smell something burning so I was like "Oh crap, I need to get home before something happens and I get stuck pushing this thing up the rest of the hill."  But, as it turned out, the go-cart wasn't on fire...my HAIR WAS!!  Apparently, my pony tail was hanging into the motor which started singeing my hair which was causing the lovely burning smell.   Luckily, nothing really happened other than my hair getting a little shorter, but you can believe I never let my hair hang in the motor again!  Aawwweee...the memories...we had a lot of fun times on that go-cart.  I wonder what ever happened to it...

Ok - and now for my favorite thing that my dad did for us as kids which I am so grateful for now as an adult.  My dad, the great man and father he is, taught us so much growing up.  Whenever something would go wrong or needed fixing, he'd always say "Hey, girls, come here for a sec.  I need to show you something."...and he'd show us how to fix or deal with whatever was going on.  For example, when the pilot light on the water heater went out, he'd call us down to the basement and (with all of us on our hands and knees) he'd explain the problem, what to look for, how to fix it and what to do if it wouldn't light again.  The whole nine yards.  He did this with so many things - changing the oil in our cars, balancing our checkbooks, what to do when the car was sliding on ice, fixing the sliding glass doors or closet doors when they came off the hinges, changing a flat tire, everything from simple things to more complex things...he was always teaching us.  And even though I was annoyed sometimes as a kid because I'd get pulled away from whatever "fun thing" I was doing, now as an adult, I am so thankful for those lessons.  I truly believe he has taught me to be a self-sufficient independent woman in any situation that I may encounter.  To this day I feel like if something around the house breaks or needs changed (i.e. switching digital thermostats, installing light fixtures, adjusting the temperature settings on the water heater, installing a garbage disposal, etc.) that I can tackle it.  I may not know exactly what I'm doing, but that doesn't stop me from trying to learn and at least attempting the fix.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't shy away from little "projects"...I tackle them head on and I am so grateful that I have that inner confidence to feel like I can do it!  So....thank you, dad, for always taking the time to teach us!

I love you, dad! Thank you for being such a great father and example in my life!  Thank you for all of the fun memories as kids and for helping me become the woman I am today!!  In closing, I wanted to share a few pictures of my dad!!

I LOVE YOU, DAD!!!

20 Weeks

How far along: 20 Weeks   (1/2 way there!!!)
Total weight gain/loss: 16 lbs (but...I just ate two bowls of chili so let's hope that has something to do with it.)
Maternity clothes: I ordered two pair of jeans and one pair of work pants this week - let's hope they are long enough.  I'm seriously considering opening a maternity clothing story for women with long legs!  It is ridiculous trying to find pants long enough that aren't $150+!
Stretch marks: Negative
Sleep: Having a hard time falling asleep this week - I get into bed and I'm wide awake.  I don't mind though because our little girl is very active around midnight every night so I love that I'm awake to feel her!!
Best moment this week: Our ultrasound!!  It was so amazing seeing our little girl and knowing that she is healthy and growing right on track!! I am so in love with her!!!
Miss anything: Sushi!
Movement: Feeling a lot more movement this week, especially at night!
Food cravings: Hot & Spicy V8 Tomato Juice, Starbursts
Anything making me queasy or sick: Nope! Yahoo!
Gender prediction: Boon was right...she's a GIRL!!!!
Labor Signs: Negative.
Symptoms: Ditziness really set in this week.  Not sure if that is an actual "symptom," but if fits right in there with mommy-brain so I'm calling it a symptom!
Belly button in or out: Still in...and very sensitive.
Belly button ring in or out: Out.  :(
Wedding rings on or off: On!
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!!  Great week!!!
Most surprised about: How much seeing that ultrasound instantly made me fall so deeply in love with our baby.  I knew it was real before, but for some reason it just made it SO MUCH MORE REAL.  I can't really describe it, but it is the best feeling in the world.  That next morning when I woke up I felt like my heart could explode it was so full of love and I wouldn't change it for the world!!  All of you mommies out there will understand!
Looking forward to: Going shopping this weekend with my wonderful friend, Melissa!  Baby and house-decor (for her new house!) shopping in one weekend - who needs anything more?!?!

Holy cow, I almost died!

True Story:  As I was getting ready for work this morning, I make a small wish that I hear my new favorite song "Angel Eyes" by Love and Theft on my way to work.  So you can imagine my excitement when it comes on the radio about half way into my commute today!!!

So after a quick shout-out to The Man Upstairs for playing my song - and like any other totally normal person driving to work in the morning - I crank the volume and starting belting out the words at the top of my lungs.  Yes, I'm one of those people that jam out by themselves in the car while others drive by and laugh...but I don't care - I love this song!

The only hiccup in my oh-so-exciting morning is that when the song came on I was mid-bite into my fiber bar (note: 2nd breakfast of the morning) and in the midst of all my excitement, I forgot that one cannot swallow food and start belting out lyrics at the same time.   Imagine my surprise!!  One minute I'm overly pumped that my song came on and the next I'm choking!  And we are talking serious choking - trying to cough, eyes watering, fists trying to punch your own back choking!  A gazillion thoughts are running through my head...first, I can't hear my song! Second, should I pull over?  OMG, can you do the heimlich maneuver on a pregnant lady?  Would anybody know how to do the heimlich on a pregnant lady?  Damn, fiber bar! My favorite part - I'm missing it!  How long can one go without breathing? Why is this happening?  And then.....AIR!!!!  I can breathe!  I don't have to pull over!!  I'm alive!!!!!  Shoot, I missed over half my song!!

Now that that was over - and I'm still here and able to type this (and super thankful) - I decided to award myself with a nonfat vanilla chai...I deserved one!  However, I was still bummed that I missed most of my favorite song....thank gosh for Youtube on my phone!  I played the song (singing just slightly above whisper the whole time since my phone's volume isn't quite as audible as the car's volume) another 3 1/4 times before I got to work...and I didn't choke once!   Ahhhh, the small things in life...
